Abstract
The medium grain, two-mica and porphyroid granite that outcrops at NNW of Praia do Carreço -Bouça do Frade Granite-, together with the two-mica granites of Carreço and Vila Praia de Âncora make up the granitic massif located to the north of Viana do Castelo. This massif is considered sin to tardy-tectonic in relation to the third Hercynian phase of deformation. The Bouça do Frade pluton have a diapiric installation, possessing a laminar morphology as a consequence of its extravasing towards the West. We show the characterization of this extravasing through the following four aspects: 1. the structural relations with host metasediments (Slate and Greywacke Complex and Ordovician): deformation geometry of metasediments promoted by the granite's lateral expansion ( fold axial planes N70W-N-S /17-38E and plunge axes to NNW and NE of 14 to 20, stretching lineations plunge to NW and ENE of 23 to 30, crenulation lineation plunge to SE and ESE of 8 to 27, and finally inverse faults/thrusts N55W-N20E/20-32E). 2. the structural relation between Bouça do Frade Granite and Vila Praia de Âncora Granite: interlayered ("lit par lit") contact; xenoliths; others boundary geometric relations. 3. the intrusion type of Bouça do Frade pluton: primary foliations ("fluidalités") analysis marked by megafeldspars and xenoliths. 4. the flattened cartographic setting of Bouça do Frade Granite.
